Every year I travel to Okinawa, Japan to train under Shuguro Nakazato Sensei. I've received 4 certificates of merit under his signature and seal. One promoting me to Ikkyu (brown belt), Shodan (1st degree black), Nidan (2nd degree black), and Shodan Kobudo (1st degree black in weapons). The skills required for these certifications are physical talent, but also some other more valuable skills are required. Teaching ability is looked upon as well as attitude of the person going up for promotion. The person testing should be humble, respectful, loyal, honest, strong, and caring. The person should carry themselves in a very confident manner, but remain humble at the same time. A good heart is the best quality to have as a martial artist.
Youth Of the Year
In 2009 I was awarded the Youth of the Year award from the Boys and Girls Club of Vista for outstanding community service, and character. I gave speeches at the Diamond Ball, and Darrell Issa's Gala dinner because of this recognition.
